Utah Grade 7: connect practice to a classroom target

Use Utah curriculum source to check the expectation your class is studying. The topic directory provides general lessons; it is not a complete state alignment. These selected learning references give you more precise ideas to compare with an assignment. Common Core-style codes are Common Core references, and other codes come from the existing planning reference. Confirm current state wording and placement before treating either as an official local requirement.

7.RP.1
Compute unit rates associated with ratios of fractions, including ratios of lengths, areas and other quantities measured in like or different units
7.NS.1
Apply and extend previous understandings of addition and subtraction to add and subtract rational numbers; represent addition and subtraction on a horizontal or vertical number line diagram
7.EE.1
Apply properties of operations as strategies to add, subtract, factor, and expand linear expressions with rational coefficients
7.G.1
Solve problems involving scale drawings of geometric figures, such as computing actual lengths and areas from a scale drawing and reproducing a scale drawing at a different scale
7.SP.1
Understand that statistics can be used to gain information about a population by examining a sample of the population, and that generalizations about a population from a sample are valid only if the sample is representative of that population. Understand that random sampling is more likely to produce representative samples and support valid inferences

Choose practice from the explanation

Ask the student to explain one of the ideas above with a drawing, model, table, or short calculation. If the explanation is unclear, open the related lesson before assigning a mixed test. If the idea is understood but the calculation is unreliable, choose a focused worksheet and review the strategy afterward.

Keep the classroom target, the resource used, and the next step together in a study note. A topic quiz can guide review; its score is not an official state performance level. Revisit the skill in a new context after a few days.

7.RP · Ratios & Proportional Relationships

  • 7.RPRatios and Proportional Relationships
  • 7.RP.1Compute unit rates associated with ratios of fractions, including ratios of lengths, areas and other quantities measured in like or different units
  • 7.RP.2Recognize and represent proportional relationships between quantities
  • 7.RP.3Use proportional relationships to solve multi-step ratio and percent problems

7.NS · The Number System

  • 7.NSThe Number System
  • 7.NS.1Apply and extend previous understandings of addition and subtraction to add and subtract rational numbers; represent addition and subtraction on a horizontal or vertical number line diagram
  • 7.NS.2Apply and extend previous understandings of multiplication and division and of fractions to multiply and divide rational numbers
  • 7.NS.3Solve real-world and mathematical problems involving the four operations with rational numbers. Computations with rational numbers extend the rules for manipulating fractions to complex fractions

7.EE · Expressions & Equations

  • 7.EEExpressions and Equations
  • 7.EE.1Apply properties of operations as strategies to add, subtract, factor, and expand linear expressions with rational coefficients
  • 7.EE.2Understand that rewriting an expression in different forms in a problem context can shed light on the problem, and how the quantities in it are related
  • 7.EE.3Solve multi-step real-life and mathematical problems posed with positive and negative rational numbers in any form (whole numbers, fractions, and decimals), using tools strategically. Apply properties of operations to calculate with numbers in any form, convert between forms as appropriate, and assess the reasonableness of answers using mental computation and estimation strategies
  • 7.EE.4Use variables to represent quantities in a real-world or mathematical problem, and construct simple equations and inequalities to solve problems by reasoning about the quantities

7.G · Geometry

  • 7.GGeometry
  • 7.G.1Solve problems involving scale drawings of geometric figures, such as computing actual lengths and areas from a scale drawing and reproducing a scale drawing at a different scale
  • 7.G.2Draw (freehand, with ruler and protractor, and with technology) geometric shapes with given conditions. Focus on constructing triangles from three measures of angles or sides, noticing when the conditions determine a unique triangle, more than one triangle, or no triangle
  • 7.G.3Describe the two-dimensional figures that result from slicing three-dimensional figures, as in plane sections of right rectangular prisms and right rectangular pyramids
  • 7.G.4Know the formulas for the area and circumference of a circle, and solve problems; give an informal derivation of the relationship between the circumference and area of a circle
  • 7.G.5Use facts about supplementary, complementary, vertical, and adjacent angles in a multi-step problem to write, and use them to solve simple equations for an unknown angle in a figure
  • 7.G.6Solve real-world and mathematical problems involving area, volume and surface area of two- and three-dimensional objects composed of triangles, quadrilaterals, polygons, cubes, and right prisms

7.SP · Statistics & Probability

  • 7.SPStatistics and Probability
  • 7.SP.1Understand that statistics can be used to gain information about a population by examining a sample of the population, and that generalizations about a population from a sample are valid only if the sample is representative of that population. Understand that random sampling is more likely to produce representative samples and support valid inferences
  • 7.SP.2Use data from a random sample to draw inferences about a population with an unknown characteristic of interest. Generate multiple samples (or simulated samples) of the same size to gauge the variation in estimates or predictions
  • 7.SP.3Informally assess the degree of visual overlap of two numerical data distributions with similar variabilities, estimating the difference between the centers by expressing it as a multiple of a measure of variability
  • 7.SP.4Use measures of center and measures of variability for numerical data from random samples to draw informal comparative inferences about two populations
  • 7.SP.5Understand that the probability of a chance event is a number between 0 and 1 that expresses the likelihood of the event occurring. Larger numbers indicate greater likelihood. A probability near 0 indicates an unlikely event, a probability around ½ indicates an event that is neither unlikely nor likely, and a probability near 1 indicates a likely event
  • 7.SP.6Approximate the probability of a chance event by collecting data on the chance process that produces it and observing its long-run relative frequency, and predict the approximate relative frequency given the probability
  • 7.SP.7Develop a probability model and use it to find probabilities of events. Compare probabilities from a model to observed frequencies; if the agreement is not good, explain possible sources of the discrepancy
  • 7.SP.8Find probabilities of compound events using organized lists, tables, tree diagrams, and simulation

Utah RISE Grade 7 Math FAQ

What is the RISE Grade 7 math test?

The RISE (Readiness Improvement Success Empowerment) is Utah's Grade 7 mathematics assessment. The linked activities are independent Grade 7 practice. Their question count, timer, scoring, and item types may differ from the official assessment. Use the directions inside each activity.

Can I use a calculator?

Calculator rules depend on the grade, assessment, test segment, and approved accommodations. Follow the current assessment guidance and ask your school which rules apply. A tool available in independent practice does not establish permission on the official test.

How long is each practice test?

Read the timer and question count shown in the practice activity you open. These are practice settings, not a statement of the official assessment’s duration or scoring.

Is it free?

The linked general practice and topic resources are available separately from optional books. Check each activity’s directions and access requirements. The study guide and bundle are optional next steps.

Utah Grade 7 Math: study questions

How should I choose a Grade 7 math study target?

Choose a current classroom target, find the matching learning reference, and use a lesson or available practice resource to check understanding. State documents control local wording and placement; shared reference codes are not a certified crosswalk.

Are these activities official state assessments?

These are independently published learning resources. A practice score does not predict or replace an official state score. Use the directions in each activity and consult your school for official testing and accommodation rules.
