1- Memorize common math formulas before the test

The formulas are not provided to you in the test center. Once you have received your scratch paper, take a moment before the test and write down all the formulas you have memorized.

2- Memorize the math order of operations

The key point in solving problems is to perform mathematical operations in order. Start working in parentheses first. Then go to the exponents. Then do each multiplication and division. End with addition and subtraction.

3- Analyze the information given

Read the whole question carefully before starting to solve the math problem. If you do not read the question carefully, you may make a careless mistake or ignore the simplest way to answer the question.

4- Start with easy questions

Some questions are easier. Some test-takers think they have to answer difficult questions. The best way for you to answer questions that are easy for you. By doing this, you have been able to get a good score with the least effort. You will also find more calmness and confidence to answer the remaining difficult questions.

5- Confirm your answer

Read the question again when choosing an answer. Make sure you answer the question asked. If you find that you missed something earlier, try to fix the problem again and change your answer if necessary.

6- Back solving

Sometimes it is easier to work backward from the answer options. Because many Arithmetic Reasoning questions are word problems with numbers in the answer choices, you can use back solving to your advantage. After all, the test gives you the right answer – just mixed with the wrong answer options. If you try an answer choice in the question and it matches the information given, you have received the correct answer.

7- Answer every question

There is no guessing penalty in ASVAB. It means that it is entirely in your best interest to guess every question about the ASVAB math! Even if you have to guess completely blindly, you have a 25% chance of choosing the right answer.

8- Do not dwell too much on math questions

Do not dwell too much on one math question, if some of the answers do not occur to you, keep your cool and skip it. In the first place, do not dwell on the questions that you answered carefully and confidently. Usually, the first guess is more accurate. Excessive obsession may cause you to change the correct answers and mark the wrong answer instead.

9- Use the scratch paper

Use the scratch paper provided to solve math problems. Draw pictures for math word problems to help visualize the situation and select relevant information.

10- Use relaxation techniques if you have anxiety

Stress is normal in test-takers. However, remind yourself not to worry. If the ASVAB math is difficult, the same is true for other test-takers. You’ve done your best, and now the unnecessary worry is ruining everything. If you are very anxious during the ASVAB session, you can use the “test break” methods and pause the exam for a few moments. Take a deep breath, hold for a few seconds, then exhale overall and repeat up to 3 times.

By following these tips, you can greatly increase your score on ASVAB mathematics. Now it’s time to use these tips to shine in ASVAB mathematics.
