In such a case, you may end up investing a significant number of chips that you wouldn’t have bet if you had not hit your out. You need to factor these additional potential losses into your decision and reduce the sum of your outs accordingly.

Pot odds help you visualize how much you need to pay compared to the total money up for grabs. For example, if the pot is currently $50 and an opponent places a bet of $10, the total pot becomes $60. To continue playing, you need to call the $10 bet.
In this case, your pot odds are $10/$60, or 1/6, which is 16.67%.
